Obituary of Marianne Blacker-Winnie

Marianne Blacker-Winnie, 84, of Nassau passed away peacefully on December 20, 2023, at Albany Medical Center after a brief illness.  She was the loving wife of Donald Winnie.  Marianne was born on October 8, 1939 in New York City.  She was raised and educated in New York City where she lived until moving to the Albany area in the mid 1970’s.

She was the first born to the late James Sidney and Marguerite (nee McShane) Schiller.  She is predeceased by her sister Marguerite Riordan.  She is survived by her sisters, Patricia Caruso and Charlene Azzoline, and her brothers, James (Mary Lynne) Schiller and Jerome (Ellen) Schiller.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and many friends.

Before her retirement, Marianne worked for many years in the banking industry, starting with State Bank of Albany and ending with Bank of America.  Marianne and Don loved cruising, they cruised all over the world.  She had a great love for animals and fostered many dogs, cats, and rabbits.  She was a member of the American Legion Post 1268 Auxiliary.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Wednesday, December 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m., at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. Nassau.  A celebration of her life (including food, because she loved Don’s cooking) will immediately follow the service at the Chandler Young Veterans Association, 7 Lyons Lake Road, Nassau.
