Obituary of George T. Ertel Sr.

George T. Ertel, Sr. 70, of Nassau, died Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Albany Medical Center after a long illness. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late John and Mary Ann Hollner Ertel. He was a 1972 graduate of Columbia High School in East Greenbush. A lifelong resident of Nassau, George was well known around town and could often be found socializing with neighbors and friends at one of the local convenience stores over a cup of coffee. George owned and operated his own contracting company for over 45 years. When he wasn’t hard at work, he enjoyed deer hunting, golfing, and playing Texas hold ‘em.  George was predeceased by his sister, Merry C. Swenson, and two brothers, Jack (John) Ertel and Daniel Ertel. George is survived by his ex-wife and mother of his children, Patricia Laraway of South Carolina. George was a devoted father to Nicolle T. Noyes (Zareski), Kadie I. Acosta (Ertel) and George T. Ertel, Jr., all of Nassau. He was a beloved Grandfather to Jacob, Gabrielle & Sophia Noyes. He is also survived by his brother, James Ertel. An interment of ashes is planned for this spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Nassau. Per George’s wishes there will be no services. The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
