Obituary of William J. Sturm Jr.

William J. Sturm, Jr., 93, of Castleton, passed away at Albany Medical Center on April 12, 2024.  Born in Albany to the late William and Ella (Harris) Sturm, he was raised in Nassau before moving to Castleton in 1983.  William served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars.  He retired from Dealer Sales Agency as the northeast salesman.  William was very handy and was a master carpenter, avid hunter and outdoorsman and an exceptional gardener. 

William is survived by his wife Laura M. Sturm of Castleton; son, William J. Sturm III of Castleton; beloved grandson Eric Hammell; daughters, Deborah Dansereau of Albany and Pamela Hammell of Castleton; grandchildren, Timothy, Amanda, Andrea, and Brittany.  He is also survived by five great grandchildren, soon to be six in June and his beloved cat Doe E Biscuits.  He was predeceased by his sister Eleanora Righter.

A Funeral service for William will be held on Friday, April 19 at 10:00am at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. Nassau.  Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Willam’s family on Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m.  Interment will be in the Nassau-Schodack Cemetery, Rt. 203, Nassau immediately following the service.
