Doris A. DiNunzio (Palmer, Knight) passed away peacefully on June 16, 2010 surrounded by her family at Evergreen Commons. Born in Bridgeport CT July 5, 1909. She later lived in Mt. Vernon, NY before moving to Nassau. She was the daughter of the late Victor and Emma Sirrine. After holding positions in the Watervliet Arsenal and the Albany Felt Company Doris retired from the New York State Senate in 1977. She is a Past Matron of the Eastern Star and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She also taught Sunday School at the St. Stephens Lutheran Church. Doris had a big heart and was always busy doing things for others. She liked to travel, bowl and do crafts. She was loved dearly by her family. Doris was predeceased by her Son Frank L. Knight Jr. (Karen) and her husbands. Survivors include her three sons James D. Knight (Sally) from Maryland, William Knight (Elaine) from Nassau, and George Knight (Carolyn) from South Carolina, two daughters, Jean (Kolodich) Leininger (Ed) from East Schodack and Doris A. Gardner (David) from Connecticut, and one hundred and forty three grand, great grand and great great grandchildren who meant the world to her. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the Evergreen Commons staff for their altruistic love and care during her last surviving days. Funeral Service from the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home 11 Elm St. Nassau Monday the 21st at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral Home Sunday from 4-7p.m. Contributions in Doris's memory can be made to the North Chatham Methodist Church, P.O. Box 107 North Chatham NY 12132.
