Obituary of Joan M. Tafur

Joan M. Tafur, 84, passed away on August 25, 2016 at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Albany to the late Clyde and Frances Hallock she was predeceased by her husband Antonio J. Tafur and son in law James Peace. Joan was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Nassau, member of the former Rosary Altar Society and a volunteer at the Nassau Resource Center. She was also a member of the East Schodack Garden Club and was a skilled seamstress. Joan formerly worked at Speedy Sales in Nassau and Grand Union. She enjoyed looking after her grandchildren in their younger years. She is survived by her sons, Tony (Kimberly) Tafur and Tom (Deb) Tafur; daughters, Juanita (Jim) Slagen, Martha (Kim) Dalton, Anna Peace (Kevin) and Barbara (Joe) Zielinski; brother, Clyde (Jackie) Hallock Jr. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church in Nassau at 10:00am on Monday Aug. 29. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Nassau. Donations in Joan's memory may be made to the Southern Tier Senior Service Center, 1800 East Schodack Rd. Castleton-On-Hudson NY 12033.
