Obituary of Katherine D. Coons

Katherine D. Coons, 89 of Castleton passed away peacefully after a brief  illness at her home with her family by her side on January 16, 2019.  She is predeceased by her husband Harold Coons Jr. and her parents Henry E. and Ethel (Carknard) Decker.  Katherine was a life member of the of the South Schodack Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and a 70 year member of the Order Of The Eastern Star, Van Rensselaer Star Chapter #256.  She was a homemaker who could not only be found in the kitchen cooking for everyone but also working the farm and knitting socks and mittens for the family.  She was a loving mother, sister and friend and will be greatly missed but never forgotten.  Katherine is survived by her son David A. Coons and his life love Barbara J. Sheldon; sister, Lois M. Bult (the late James); her forever friend Peter the cat and her dear friend Brenda Hacker.  She is also survived by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Funeral service from the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. Nassau on Saturday at 11:00am.  Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home prior to the service from 10am-11am.  Interment will follow in the VanValkenburgh Cemetery on Bame Rd. in  Castleton.  In lieu of flowers donations in Katherine's memory may be made to the  South Schodack Fire Co. Inc. 1563 Bame Road, Castleton, NY 12033.
