Obituary of William J. McGrath

William J. McGrath, 74, of North Chatham passed away on June 8, 2023 at Albany Medical Center.  Born in Yonkers, NY, he was the son of the late William and Margaret (Forcelli) McGrath.  Bill lived in Nassau and North Chatham most of his life, was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the American Legion Post #47 in Valatie.  He worked as a security guard with Brink’s Armored Transportation prior to his retirement. Bill served his community for many years as a life member of the North Chatham Fire Dept. and the Nassau Fire Department, member of the North Chatham Fire Police and as a former EMT with the Nassau Rescue squad. Bill enjoyed his time as a starter at the Lebanon Valley Speedway and working on the ambulance there, as well.

He is survived by his wife Suzanne McGrath; son, William; and his brothers; Patrick D. of Vero Beach, FL, Peter J. of Constable, NY, Benjamin A. of Sebastian, FL and Matthew R. of Vero Beach, FL. He is also survived by his stepson Kenneth McDonaldson and stepdaughters Susan Harris and Marcia Steinauer.

A funeral service will be held on Monday June 12 at 9:30 A.M. at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St. in Nassau.  Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday evening from 4-6 P.M. at the funeral home.  Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
